The latest episode of Brick House at reasonablyclever.com

My last blog entry, an interview with Chris Doyle, creator of Mini-Mizer, the online tool to instantly make yourself in Lego, was extremely popular. I knew that Mini-Mizer was now world famous and that Chris had a big following, and was touched that so many of his fans came over here to read my interview with him.

Only my interview with Gavin Clark, who writes much of the soundtrack material for Bafta award winning director Shane Meadows (Dead Man's Shoes, This is England, Somers Town) and my interview with and articles about the late Booker long-listed author Michael de Larrabeiti have been this popular.

Every weekday Chris posts a new episode of his Lego comic Brick House on his blog. It's up to episode 497 now and I intend to start at 1 and read the whole lot during what little free time I have. Anyway, Chris posted a short blog entry linking to my interview with him, entitled "This is too cool" (which made me say out loud to myself "Wow, he thinks my article is cool, well that's just too cool!") and in the comments trail for the post, one of Chris's readers, Geoffrey, posting from Australia, kindly asked whether I could make my blog a bit faster loading for those poor souls who don't have the very best ADSL connections or are not yet on broadband.

I had been concerned about this problem for a while, so today I've spent a bit of time halving the size of the blog. However it needs a complete rethink to optimize it. I'll get this done as soon as I can but I'm working flat out to get Mother-in-Law, Son-in-Law ready for publishing atm so if you're on 56k then please be patient until I get a streamlined version of the blog set up. I've been using the free tool at weboptimization.com to analyze which areas of the blog were clogging up the arteries; I can't recommend it highly enough.

And for those Shane Meadows fans who regularly read my blog, his new film Somers Town, once again starring Thomas Turgoose, is due for release 22nd August. Shane is one of the greatest film directors alive today so this is an unmissable treat. (Trailer below. Music by Gavin Clark.)

Thanks for the link to the trailer. I'm a huge Meadows fan the film looks awesome. Gavin Clark's music is, as ever, a hauntingly beautiful accompaniment.
There was an interesting article about Thomas Turgoose in Sunday'Observer. I didn't know that shortly after filming This is England his mother died. He is a such a great young talent.

yeah i heard about thomas's mum, that's so sad. i was defending him last year from some losers on the imdb forums who were having a go at him. honestely, how could anyone criticise the boy he is utterly brilliant!
